iBurst Africa keeps Ghana in line with global trends
iBurst is setting new standards in technology after being approved as an IEEE standard: 802.20. This creates an open platform whereby iBurst technology will be shared publicly. The publication of IEEE 802.20 will enable other technology manufacturers to develop and deploy the technology globally.
iBurst technology has been officially accredited by the largest professional society in the world - the IEEE. The publication of this standard is the culmination of over 5 years of detailed analysis and review by technical experts from around the globe. The IEEE, The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, is the world’s most respected technical society and is the organization that sets the standards for a broad range of electronic technology.
In line with iBurst Africa, the IEEE’s goal is to enable worldwide deployment of affordable, wide-spread, always-on and interoperable multi-vendor mobile broadband wireless access networks that meet the needs of business and residential end user markets. By publishing this standard, the IEEE has endorsed iBurst technology as key to meeting this goal.
The benefit to Ghana, where iBurst Africa has recently launched its services in the Accra and the Tema regions, is that iBurst technology is a world class and reliable technology, and will become more widespread and affordable as new equipment vendors join this market.
iBurst Africa believes that this standard will lead to a low-cost, always-on, and truly mobile broadband wireless network.

iBurst Africa bursts into Ghana, as part of its drive to expand across Africa.
Broadband Internet service provider giant iBurst Africa is expanding its operations in Ghana after enjoying high patronage in the country. The company provides a wide-area mobile broadband technology offering a unique combination of high speed, wide range and high base station capacity. The fourth generation wireless technology has been available in Ghana since 2007, however the company has now extended it’s coverage to Tema, Spintex, Airport, McCarthy Hill, Tantra Hill, Trust Towers and Legon. This development will enable fast and efficient connectivity for current and potential clients.
iBurst Africa officially launched its operations as a broadband internet provider in Ghana on Friday at the iBurst Africa offices in Accra. This launch celebrates the reveal of a new technology, the iBlink 2Mb/s modem which is yet to be launched anywhere else in the world. The Chairman of iBurst Africa in Ghana, Mr. Isaac Osei – Agyemang says the fact that Ghana is the first country in which this modem will be launched underpins how seriously the company takes the Ghanaian market. The iBlink modem will offer twice the throughput of 1Mb/s modems currently available in Ghana. He says a number of products have been lined up to be launched on the Ghanaian market to give subscribers fast and efficient internet connectivity. iBurst Africa’s presence in Ghana is in line with its vision of expanding its operations across the African continent. The broadband internet service provider already has operations in South Africa and is expanding to DRC, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Kenya and Zambia this year.
To date, iBurst Africa has invested 4 million US dollars into Ghana to ensure superior coverage and speed in Accra. This investment also brings significant benefits to uplifting communities by boosting economic growth. iBurst Africa’s corporate commitment of providing broadband internet access to disadvantaged communities will be rolled out as part of iBurst Africa’s extensive CSI programme.
To support iBurst Africa’s prepaid system, iBurst Africa has introduced their new connect and go cards which will ensure immediate and convenient on-the-go connectivity for customers.
As part of the launch of its operations, iBurst Africa gave out four modems in a special raffle which was held for invited guests.
The Chief Executive announced that they will be supporting the launch with an integrated communication plan and that the sales team will be running promotions in selected places in the country.
